Ushio, a Japanese manufacturer of light equipment, has produced the device called “Care222”, which emits ultraviolet (UV) rays that destroy the new type of corona virus (covid-19) without harming humans.
Produced in collaboration with Columbia University, Care222 emits 222 nanometers of UV harmless to humans, unlike traditional devices that emit UV at a wavelength of 254 nanometers.
The device, which does not harm people while killing germs, will be used to disinfect high-risk bus, train, elevator and office environments.
Hanging from the ceiling of the environment, Care222 neutralizes 99 percent of viruses and bacteria in the air at a distance of 2.5 meters in 7 minutes.
The device, considered the first of its kind in the world, does not penetrate the skin surface and eye at a wavelength of 222 nanometers, causing genetic defects, according to the Kyodo agency.
Ushio said the 222-nanometer UV was harmless to humans and was approved by the University of Hiroshima in unbiased tests.
300 thousand yen (2 thousand 860 dollars) Price labeled 1.2 kilogram weighted Care222 for now only medical institutions can be ordered.
On the other hand, the company announced a project with Toshiba for the production of general-purpose light bulbs, where care222 emitters will be installed.
